The trails of the Smokies take you through some very diverse environments. The plan for this trip was for the seventeen of us to backpack from Elkmont on the east side of the Smokies to Clingman's Dome at the top middle, and it worked out something like that.



The first night we camped at Elkmont, a drive in campground and very nice for a drive in. The following day we hiked up to our first campsite, passing by a campsite who's campers would later that night have an encounter with a bear that they told us about. The second day we hiked up to Clingman's Dome traveling along the Appalachian Trail for a few miles and taking in some awesome views. I didn't realize there was this much "wilderness" in the eastern US. The third day....well check out the pictures.
